Mission
The Tabor Youth Development Center is dedicated to serve our city’s diverse population through programming intended to foster education and inspire civic leadership in a safe and structured environment.
Description
The Tabor Youth Development Center (TYDC) grew out of several successful programs at Tabor Lutheran Church in the Feltonville neighborhood of Philadelphia. The center’s goal is to serve at-risk youths with high quality after-school care, summer day camps and life skill programs for teens.
Our programs are funded by a combination of subsidized tuition, grants from local foundations and donations from friends of the program. If you are interested in supporting our programs, please contact us by phone, mail or email!
Our After School Program operates Monday - Friday, 3:00 - 6:30 pm throughout the school year. Students struggling with reading receive individualized literacy training, and immigrant and ESL children benefit from our bilingual tutors. Students who are part of our literacy program consistently improve their reading proficiency faster than the national average. Students in our program consistently improve their overall school performance significantly.
Our Summer Day Camp is an eight-week program featuring field trips, explorations in the dramatic, musical and visual arts and a variety of other enrichment opportunities. Our program includes a daily free lunch and free snacks, an on-site computer lab and gym and a free camp T-shirt for every participant. The main camp meets from 8:30 am - 2:00 pm each day.
