The Consulate General in NYC opened in 2011. In addition to consular services provided to Algerian nationals all over the 44 states covered by its jurisdiction, it supports the Algerian community and associations in the US.  Moreover, the Consulate General facilitates economic, education, and cultural exchanges between the USA and Algeria.

Brahim Chennouf has been the Consul General of Algeria since August 5, 2020.He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985 after graduating from The Center of Administration Studies and from the faculty of economics at the University of Algiers.He served in the consular representations of Algeria in Brussels, London, New York, Lyon and Metz in France.

In between his overseas assignments, he served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Algeria where he held three consecutive positions as Deputy-Director in consular and general resources departments.He took part in several bilateral and sub-regional committees on consular and judicial matters.Mr. Chennouf is married and has four children. He is passionate about soccer
