Last December, Temple University’s Vice President for International Affairs and Board of Directors, and member of the Global Philadelphia Association (GPA), Dr. Hai-Lung Dai visited the City Hall of Naples of Italy and met with its newly elected mayor; Gaetano Manfredi.

Dai presented a letter and a token of friendship on behalf of GPA to Mayor Manfredi. In addition, he also presented a letter of invitation to Manfredi to visit Philadelphia and Temple to meet the government and educational leadership and present a lecture on his vision on how to manage metropolises during the challenging time of climate change.

Dai and  Manfredi discussed how to make Naples and its prominent universities desirable destinations for American students pursuing study abroad opportunities. The goal is to have many of the students visit Naples to enjoy the Italian culture and benefit from the success of Italian universities.

The Temple delegation also included Professor Antonio Giordano, a biology professor, a native of Napoles, and one of the top scholars at Temple. For his work toward enhancing Italy and US relations, Dai was a recipient of the Knight of the Order of the Italian Star from the Italian Government in 2017.
