Puentes de Salud Announces New Changes In Leadership

By Will Becker

Puentes de Salud, a Philadelphia nonprofit organization that provides health and wellness services to the Latinx in our region, has recently announced a change in leadership. Steve Larson, Executive Director and Co-founder, and Esther Morales, Managing Director, have chosen to step down from their positions.

Morales was instrumental in guiding Puentes and the community through the emotional and physical turmoil that defined the past five years, particularly through changes in immigration policy and the advent of COVID-19. Morales initially joined Puentes in 2011 as a volunteer in the education arm of Puentes. Under her guidance as Director of Education in 2012, she refined and expanded Puentes Hacia el Futuro, creating a robust model for service-based learning.

Before founding Puentes de Salud in 2007, Larson previously served as the assistant dean for Global Health Programs and an associate professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently Professor Emeritus of Emergency Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at UPenn.

They have both joined in believing the time is right for their departure and to welcome a new generation of Puentes leadership. They have currently enlisted Dunleavy and Associates for assistance in their search for a new Executive Director. At the moment, the interim Executive Director is Marta Kiesling, the Engagement Team Leader from Dunleavy & Associates. Marta brings 10 plus years of nonprofit experience and leadership as an Executive Director and is a board member of the InterAct Theatre Company and a member of the advisory group for MusiCoLab.
