Join GPA for its 5th World Heritage City Celebration

On September 10, 2020, Global Philadelphia Association (GPA) will hold its 5th annual World Heritage City Celebration. This year, the event will honor world-class musician and musical director of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Due to the current global health crisis and GPA’s commitment to the safety of its members, the event will be virtual, with musical guests, remarks, and keynote speakers.

This event is an opportunity to invest in GPA’s World Heritage City Strategic Plan, and highlights the year’s incredible progress in increasing Philadelphia’s global impact:

  • Educating hundreds of kids through free and low-cost resources.
  • Launched a first-of-its-kind Philadelphia National Historic Landmark map.
  • Hosting the biennial GlobalPhillyTM Expo to showcase the international activity of our residents.
  • Appointment of Mayor Kenney to the Board of the Organization of World Heritage Cities.

In addition to highlighting GPA’s exciting achievements, this year’s World Heritage Celebration features distinguished speakers and performers. Notably, Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman will give a reading. Gorman is a poet, activist and is the first person to be named National Youth Poet Laureate. She has composed a poem to honor both our city and our honoree, and we are thrilled. In addition, Reverend Luis Cortes, the chief executive office of Esperanza will provide a performance video and tribute; and leaders of other World Heritage cities are sending testimonies on the importance of World Heritage. Finally, the folk-rock band, The Bacon Brothers will provide an exciting video performance. We at GPA are thrilled about this event, and we hope you will join us on September 10th to celebrate our City and its robust heritage. We would also like to thank our sponsors, including World Heritage sponsors such as the Connelly Foundation and Deloitte; media partners including Chatterblast; Heritage sponsors the University of Pennsylvania, American Bible Society, Air Canada, and others; and our international sponsor, Brandywine Realty Trust.
