Professor Wachtel is the President of the American University of Central Asia, Kyrgyzstan, and Bertha and Max Dressler Professor in the Humanities, Northwestern University. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.

Noted African American literati and scholars will join Art Sanctuary and Rap Sessions as they host 'Rebirth of a Nation: Race and Gender Politics in Today's Media' - a community dialogue on the role of African Americans in the media in the new millennium. Moderated by journalist and author Akiba Solomon, the all-star panel includes Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, Mark Anthony Neal, Joan Morgan, and Elizabeth Mendez Berry in an interactive town hall style meeting that takes a look at current depictions of African Americans in the media, the disproportionately high negative media coverage of African Americans in this seemingly post-racial America, and the role of positive African American images in the media as it relates to inducing social change in our communities. Free and open to the public.

Alan Luxenberg Named President of Foreign Policy Research Institute

Global Philadelphia Association is proud to announce the appointment of Alan Luxenberg to the Presidency of Foreign Policy Research Institute, a GPA Member organization. Mr. Luxenberg, who had been FPRI's acting president for a year, has served the organization since 1976, when he was still a student at the University of Pennsylvania, and over the years has served in virtually every position within the organization.

Belgium-Based Firm First to Call Science Center's Business Incubator Home

The University City Science Center’s Port Business Incubator has opened a new co-working office space for emerging startup companies called the Bullpen. The new space, which offers entrepreneurs a desk, phone and high speed Wi-Fi, is located on the Science Center campus at 3711 Market Street in Philadelphia. Belgium-based Biologistics Consulting is the first company to call the Bullpen home.
