Gwynedd Mercy University is leading a collaboration with Conference for Mercy Higher Education sister colleges and universities to develop an intercollegiate alliance with Mercy Focus on Haiti (MFOH) and the community of Gros Morne, Haiti. This project will include service immersion experiences, undergraduate and graduate research activities, health and social services clinical and internship opportunities for students.

Using video projections, live performance, and humor, Irani embodies characters from her journey and invites the audience to share their own stories. IJ curator Alex Shaw joins Irani as a guest artist.

This lecture discusses Alexander von Humboldt’s position between the declining Spanish empire and the rising American nation at the time of his visit to the United States in the spring of 1804.

What were the reasons for adding this visit to the US after having travelled through the Spanish colonies for five years? What role did Philadelphia play for Humboldt during his six-week stay in this country?
