Last week, Liverpool was removed from the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites. The decision was made by the UNESCO Committee, after a meeting in Fuzhou, China where the vote was cast.

The Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), recently announced new health services opportunities in the Cedar (West Philadelphia) community. The PHMC Public Health Campus on Cedar is founded on the guiding principle “to provide high-quality, community-informed, patient-centered health care and social services supporting the needs of the facility’s West and Southwest Philadelphia neighbors.”

Ever since I was a little girl, I always wanted to travel abroad. The idea of going to another country always intrigued me. I grew up in the west of the United States in Bozeman, Montana where life was small and digestible. In 2007, I moved to Baltimore where my world grew a little bigger. However, I always craved more. 

Last month, Environmental artist Sarah Kavage and Iraqi social art designer Yaroub Al Obaidi hosted a presentation for their finished project of a “Mudhif,” a traditional Iraqi guesthouse. The Mudhif, which is the first to be built outside of Iraq, is located at the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education.

Puentes de Salud, a Philadelphia nonprofit organization that provides health and wellness services to the Latinx in our region, has recently announced a change in leadership. Steve Larson, Executive Director and Co-founder, and Esther Morales, Managing Director, have chosen to step down from their positions. 

Last month, I had the opportunity to attend an event presented by the Philadelphia Geography Society at the Doubletree Hotel in Center City, celebrating Taylor Demonbreun as the organization’s 129th Explorer of the Year.

As a 19-year-old African American male, this past June was the first time that I celebrated Juneteenth. Recently, June 19, was officially declared a federal holiday.

Philadelphia City Council has passed the Christian Street Demolition Moratorium. Effective immediately, the bill places a temporary moratorium on all demolitions along Christian St in South Philadelphia, from Broad St to 20th Street.
