The Free Library of Philadelphia hosted a virtual Author Event with historian and author John Ghazvinian in conversation with Ambassador John Limbert on February 4th. Ghazvinian spoke about his latest book “America and Iran: A History 1720 to The Present.” 

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought the world to a standstill, which has impacted the daily operations of historical cities across the world. In particular, many of Philadelphia’s fellow World Heritage Cities have implemented a variety of innovative measures to combat the spread of the pandemic.

 Mayor Michael Nutter is visiting Germany this week to establish a new Sister City relationship with the city of Frankfurt, Philadelphia’s first new Sister City in 23 years.

Then he’s headed to Tel Aviv to meet with companies interested in creating a presence in Philly. That’s fresh off of a trip last week to Mexico, aimed at establishing closer ties with Mexico and its fourth largest city, Puebla.

Dr. Steven M. Altschuler’s long tenure, and long commute, as CEO of the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia are coming to a close.

Recently, Dr. Michael Horowtiz of the University of Pennsylvania was invited to the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia (1 S. Broad St.) to discuss one of the most delicate international relations issues faced by the United States in recent years.

Mayor Michael A. Nutter will visit China this week to promote opportunities for investment in Philadelphia, strengthen relationships between key Philadelphia institutions and their Chinese counterparts, and continue to promote Philadelphia as a growing international city. 

Governor Tom Corbett will lead a delegation of Pennsylvania business, tourism and university leaders on a business development mission to Brazil and Chile next spring that will focus on creating new economic opportunities and job growth. “Brazil and Chile are two of the world’s fastest growing economies and we have seen a growing interest in the market from Pennsylvania companies,” Corbett said. “Strengthening our trade relationship with these countries will lead to new business growth and jobs for Pennsylvanians.”
