Kevin Claiborne will take time to discuss his exhibition, Before I Died I was Invisible. In the works included in Before I Died I Was Invisible, Kevin Claiborne uses photographic and printmaking processes to address the Black experience in America today.

Piotr Szyhalski made a drawing that would evolve into “Covid-19: Labor Camp Report,” a series of artistic responses to the global pandemic. Today the project, which can be seen in its entirety on Instagram @laborcamp, comprises over 225 digitally-printed posters that have been wheatpasted across the U.S. from Los Angeles to Baltimore and Minneapolis to Philadelphia. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Guggenheim Fellowship in Constitutional Studies, the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and the National Constitution Center will bring together former fellows—Holly Brewer, Risa Goluboff, and Lea VanderVelde—to discuss the battle over race and equality across American history, from the Founding to Reconstruction to the Civil Rights Revolution. This event is presented in partnership with the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation.

In commemoration of the 275th anniversary of the American Philosophical Society’s founding in 1743 and the birth of its long-time President, Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826, APS 1780, President 1797-1814), the APS Library, along with the National Constitution Center and the Robert H. Smith International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello, are organizing a daylong symposium that aims to explore the history of science, knowledge production, and learning during the Age of Jefferson (1743-1826).

Laurence Tribe, leading constitutional scholar and author of To End a Presidency: The Power of Impeachment, joins co-author Joshua Matz for a deep dive into the history and future of presidential impeachment.

Copies of To End a Presidency: The Power of Impeachment will also be available for sale at the museum before and after the program.

On July 8, 1776, Colonel John Nixon strode to a platform in the State House yard (now Independence Square) and shared the stunning news of the Declaration of Independence with the crowd. Help celebrate this historic occasion and join the crowd to hear a commemorative reading of the document by a park ranger portraying Colonel Nixon. Free copies will be given out so you can follow along and cheer or jeer.
