We live at a time of extraordinary peril and opportunity. The global order is under threat from the Trump presidency, Brexit, regional conflicts including Syria and Ukraine, climate change, and multiple refugee crises. David Miliband, one of the most prominent global statesmen, offers an unparalleled guide to the future of world politics.
A former British Parliament member, environment secretary, and foreign secretary, David Miliband is president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee, where he directs humanitarian aid and development initiatives in more than 40 countries and refugee resettlement in 28 U.S. cities. In 2017, he published Rescue: Refugees and the Political Crisis of Our Time. Former President Bill Clinton described Miliband as “one of the ableist, most creative public servants.”
This event is presented by the Cooper Fund and co-sponsored by the Department of Political Science, Global Studies, the Lang Center for Civic and Social Responsibility, and the Swarthmore IR Club.
