On Saturday, August 18, the Council of Indian Organizations of Greater Philadelphia brings to Philadelphia the rich, unique Indian culture at the annual Festival of India celebration, hosted at the Great Plaza at Penn’s Landing.
The festival, presented as part of PECO’s Multicultural Series, commemorates the country’s Independence Day in an event that showcases the active Indian-American culture in Philadelphia. In celebration of one of India’s most renowned cultural aspects, music, the event will once again host continuous live, traditional Bollywood song and dance.
The event will also feature the India Pavilion, an exhibit of India’s ancient musical heritage showcasing various musical instruments such as the tabala, sitar, dhol, tasha and mridang.
Along with entertainment, the event will feature an exhibition of traditional clothes, jewelry and crafts, as well as various foods and spices hailing from different regions of the country, all available for purchase.
