A Taste of Kabuki Dance

Learn the fundamentals of classical Japanese dance, one of the components of kabuki theater in this introductory lesson for people of all ages! No previous dance experience is required.
The IchiFuji-kai Dance Association teaches Soke Fujima dance, an elegant style of nihon buyo (Japanese classical dance) that's used in kabuki performances.
Attendees will meet Fujima Nishiki-no, who has taught nihon buyo for almost thirty years, and will see a demonstration of male and female-style dance. Next, attendees will learn how to wear a yukata, how to walk while wearing a yukata, and how to open a fan - fundamentals of nihon buyo training.
The lesson will also cover a simple dance taught to beginning students. begin to learn a very simple, beginning dance.
Advance registration is required. Tickets are $18 ($15 members).
