Curator Susanna Gold, in partnership with Unique Photo, announces the U.S. debut of artist Yasuomi Hashimura with Future Déjà Vu, a solo exhibition in the Unique Photo galleries in Old City, Philadelphia. The exhibition is part of the 20/20 Photo Festival, a citywide celebration of photography in all of its forms.
Hashimura’s ongoing Future Déjà Vu series features abstracted images of historic sculpture, architecture, and landscape from Paris, Rome, and his native Japan. Hashimura creates each photo-based piece as a unique work of art, combining darkroom printing with calligraphic brushwork that recalls traditional Japanese ink painting, or sumi-e.
The exhibition of Hashimura’s work opens with a public reception on Thurs, Sept. 9, 5-7pm and remains on view until Sun., Nov. 14 at Unique Photo, 3rd floor galleries, 28 South 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA 19106. Hours are M-W: 10am–5pm | Thu-F: 10am-6pm | Sat: 10am-5pm | Sun: 10am-4pm.
