Ancient Armenian cultural heritage offers us some of the world’s most beautiful classical music. In this first concert of a two-part exploration, we play works by composers who grew up within this unique heritage, and went on to develop distinct musical voices. Along the way, we dip into the pure source of modern Armenian classical music, with deeply expressive music by the prolific Alan Hovhaness, and the remarkable Komitas, referred to as the savior of Armenian folk music.
Our performance opens a door to this little-known world of musical gems. It begins a journey to experience this treasure up close, culminating in next season’s ARMENIA’S ARK OF MUSIC – Part 2: The SOURCE with ensemble, voices, and original arrangements of Komitas. TWO PERFORMANCES ~ ~ TWO LOCATIONS
