Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which is now the African Union (AU). On May 25, 1963, leaders of 30 of the 32 independent African states signed a founding charter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, establishing the OAU. The African Union is now comprised of 53 member states and brings together the continent to collectively address the challenges it has faced, such as armed conflict, climate change, and poverty.

National Historic Landmarks Highlight Video Release

GPA will be showcasing video content from our 2022 International Day of Monuments and Sites that was celebrated on April 18th. This event showcases some of the 67 National Historic Landmarks in Philadelphia contributing to the international importance of our region. IDMS is an international day celebrated all over the world and activated in Philadelphia.

SDG #11 Sustainble Cities and Communities Unveiling

GPA will be hosting an SDG mural unveiling at the Kipp School at 5:00 pm during World Heritage Week along with releasing an updated mural map.The SDG mural program highlights murals designed by Philadelphia artists' interpretations of the of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This unveiling's artist is Nazeer Sabree.

Two Virtual Conversatins with ACANA and Philadelphia250

Philadelphia 250

A conversation with Philadelphia250 CEO Danielle Delio Kim about the connection between World Heritage Week and the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Philadelphia250 is planning a year-long celebration. This will be a live virtual event positioned on the GPA website (www.globalphiladelphia.org).

Preview of the West Chester Exposition

As a part of World Heritage Week, West Chester Univerity will be hosting an exhibit featuring artifacts from local Philadelphia community organizations dedicated to UNESCO world heritage. Through a partnership with GPA, the exhibit designers connected with dozens of community organizations and representations from six continents.
