http://www.africaday.info/about.html Africa Day is the annual commemoration of the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU), which is now the African Union (AU). On May 25, 1963, leaders of 30 of the 32 independent African states signed a founding charter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, establishing the OAU. The African Union is now comprised of 53 member states and brings together the continent to collectively address the challenges it has faced, such as armed conflict, climate change, and poverty.
