20th Anniversary Conference and Networking Reception

The Philadelphia Bar Association entered a Twinning Agreement with the Bar of Lyon, France on December 12, 1997, which was renewed on December 13, 2013. Since the original agreement was signed, there have been many exchanges of delegations of Bar leaders between the two cities.

The most enduring aspect of the relationship has been the exchange program for law students and lawyers. Every year, several French law students come to Philadelphia to undertake six-month internships with law firms, as well as with companies and judges. The Philadelphia Bar also sends interns, now usually rising second-year law students, to perform shorter internships in Lyon during the summer. Over the years, approximately 75 lawyers and law students have participated in this program as interns. In addition, the Philadelphia Bar Association has formal relationships with the bar associations of Barcelona, Spain; and Montreal, Canada. The establishment of relationships with these participants and our bar counterparts has led to business development for Philadelphia Bar members and has increased members' capacity to serve their clients as they engage internationally.

Join us for the Lyon-Philadelphia Bar Association 20th Anniversary Conference & Networking Reception on April 20-22, 2017, a unique networking, educational and cultural gathering celebrating 20 years of the successful "twinning" relationship between the Philadelphia and Lyon bar associations, exemplified by the annual exchange of lawyer interns between the two cities.
