The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), popularly known as the Hare Krishna movement, is a nonsectarian worldwide association dedicated to propagating love of God through the YOGA practice of chanting the holy names of the Lord--"Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare" -- devotees purify their consciousness and develop their relationship with Krishna, the supreme Lord.

The Philadelphia branch of ISKCON was established in 1969. It moved to its present location in 1977 when it purchased the historic Cresheim Arms hotel on a beautiful 2-1/2-acre wooded site in Mt. Airy.

The president of the temple is HG Ravindra Svarupa dasa, who joined in Philadelphia in 1971. He holds a Ph.D in Religion from Temple University, PA. Ravindra Svarupa dasa also serves on the International Governing Board of ISKCON.
