Memory of a Time Twice Lived

Thursday, November 5, 2015 - 8:00am - 5:00pm
Wagner Free Institute of Science, 1700 W. Montgomery Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19121
United States

See the Wagner in a new light during this world premiere screening and reception. The film, partly inspired by Wagner's mission and featuring scenes shot in our museum and lecture hall, is the result of a multi-year project between the artists Angel Nevarez and Valerie Tevere, the Wagner, and curator Kate Kraczon.

About the film: Memory of a Time Twice Lived is a journey through the musical tempo, cinematic time, and the excavation of an image. The work builds a field of relations tying together 20th century mythic heroes, the Wagner's collection, the Mexican luchador El Santo, and the accordion as a nomadic instrument. Shot on location in Philadelphia and Mexico City, this work references Chris Marker's iconic science fiction piece La Jetée (1962) and features a concert performed in front of a live audience in the Wagner's lecture hall and an accordionist performing throughout Philadelphia.
