Lecture by Dr. Therese Dolan _ Patronage and Profits: Paul Durand-Ruel and the Impressionists

Dr. Therese Dolan is an art historian who specializes in 19th century French art and has also published books on contemporary art. She received a Ph.D from Bryn Mawr College.

She wrote Manet, Wagner, and the Musical Culture of Their Time (Aldershot: Ashgate, 2012);edited Perspectives on Manet (Aldershot: Ashgate, 2012); wrote Inventing Reality: The Paintings of John Moore (New York: Hudson Hills Press, 1996); and Gavarni and the Critics (Ann Arbor, Michigan: U.M.I. Research Press, 1981). She has also published many articles in scholarly journals, including the Art Bulletin, Word and Image, Print Quarterly, Nineteenth Century French Studies, Women's Art Journal, the Gazette des Beaux-arts, Nineteeth-Century Art Worldwide and La Revue de l'Art.

   In 2002 she received a National Endowment for the Humanities summer fellowship to study opera and voice with Carolyn Abbate at Princetown University. She received the Cristian R. and Mary F. Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2002 and a Great Teacher Award in 2006 at Temple University. She served two terms as chair of Temple's Department of Art History and was Interim Dean of Tyler School of Art in 2008 and 2009. In 2000 she organized and hosted an international conference " Ways of Seeing" at the Universite de Parix X at Nanterre, France, and in 2003 she was co-coordinator of "Nineteenth-Century Worlds: Local/Global" in London.
